Sleeman vs Stella Artois on Instagram

This social media platform that will be talked about in this discussion is different from others because it requires using effective images and videos more than creating written content like they did on Facebook and Twitter.

When looking at these two historic brands, both brands are still on the same boat and have the ability to post content but unfortunately they lack the capability to keep their content on a consistent basis by only posting content once or twice a week. The type of content that each brand posts is mostly promotional post about their beer products like Sleeman has done for the dark chocolate beer and introducing a bundle beer case that include all type of Sleeman beer. Sleeman also uses warm colours and good quality photos that attract multiple senses of the consumer and almost makes them feel thirsty for a beer…or is that just me? Stella on the other hand does pretty much uses similar strategies and produces the same type of content that incorporate a lot of good quality images but are mostly posted to promote a product or an event that Stella Artois is a part of or promoting one the their biggest promotional ideas which is the #BuyALadyADrink chalice.

Stella Artois Instagram post for #BuyALadyADrink campaign.
Now, let’s talk about the description features each brand uses. Sleeman Brewery uses a couple of features which include posting links that go to their company website or if there are holding events they will post links to the event page on Facebook or event page on their website. Sleeman also uses certain keywords but still lack the effectiveness of incorporating good keywords. Some keywords include; “Notoriously Good Beer” and “Local Canadian Beer”. Stella Artois does almost the same type of work as Sleeman does but still get more traffic because of the brand image they’ve already established in the beer market. Some features that they use are links to other sites and using some keywords or hashtags like #BuyALadyADrink or #GiveBeautifully.

Sleeman Gentlemens Expo Promotion

When quickly comparing at both of best Instagram posts that they’ve created to the public, you can see that Stella Artois receives a lot more activity then Sleeman because of their brand image and Sleeman being a local brand and only being known in Ontario and Stella Artois being known globally. In the images above you’ll see that the best post Stella Artois created was a post about their holiday promotions and celebrating their long history of the brand. This post received 2,763 likes and 143 comments while Sleemans post received 93 likes and 2 comments, which was a post about the gentlemen expo event that Sleeman was sponsoring. Overall I believe that both of these post were successful because not only were the able to get good results but looking at the post itself, you can see that the visual aid looks professional and informative for viewers to see and get glued into the created content.

Have your say and let us know who you think should win the best Instagram account! Cheers!

Facebook Battle: Budweiser VS Alexander Keith's

Facebook is a massive tool brands use to market products, events or new ideas.  It's a social media platform that allows companies to reach a widespread audience.  Today I will be looking at the Facebook pages of Alexander Keith's and Budweiser to see what they do to effectively market themselves and I will rate them on a scale of 1-5.

I have designed the chart below to answer the following 4 questions:

1.  How often does each brand post?
2.  What kind of content does each brand post (promotional, discounts and coupons,   how-to’s, industry related events, games, images, infographics, etc.)
3. Does each brand use the 50/50 rule?
4. Keyword sentences used by either brand on their posts

Alexander Keith’s
Budweiser
Not Often. Within the past 3 months, they have made 2 posts.  None so far in the month of March, and in Feb. & Jan. Last year they made couple posts in December about holiday gifts and posted almost every other day in November & October.
Very Often. They make posts almost every other day and are very active in responding to comments made on these posts.
A lot of the content that Keith’s posts are promotional, coupons and industry related.  Most of their posts talk about new brews that they will be introducing soon, merchandise that they are selling for the holidays or weather related & posts about activities to do such as taking a tour of the brewery or trying out new beers at local bars.
Because its hockey season and the playoffs are around the corner.  A lot of the posts they have made are all promotional regarding the Giant goal light that is travelling across Canada.  Their marketing campaign to get people involved is enabling people to submit their names to be engraved on the Goal light when it comes to their area. 1 recent post that they made that differs from the others is one about drinking and driving, with a video attached.  The video is a speaker from Budweiser talking at SXSW festival.
Not Really. Most of Alexander Keith’s posts are regarding their own personal brand.  The only recent post not directly promoting their brand was an article about how a 120 year old bottle was found on the bottom of the ocean of the cost of Halifax and it contained Keith’s beer.
Most of their posts like I said before is about the goal light.  The only 2 other posts that aren’t about Budweiser is drinking and driving.  Both posts have videos attached to them, making it easily accessible for consumers scrolling through Facebook.  It’s a huge issue and makes them look very good.

As you can see, there is a huge difference in how both these brands use Facebook actively to reach out to their demographic.  Lets see what their most effective posts were and what they did to stand out.
Alexander Keith’s

It’s simple.  It’s not trying to directly sell you a product or bombard you with info you don’t care about.  It’s simply relating to everyone who likes to celebrate St. Patricks day and is reminding you to have a Keith’s. Shows 4 people together and represents a good time.  This post so far has 635 Likes, 98 Shares & 19 Comments.

Budweiser

Its powerful and effective.  Almost everyone agrees that drinking and driving is wrong and many people have been affected by it.  What Budweiser has done with this post is simply create awareness.  They aren’t trying to promote their product, they are more promoting their ethics on certain topics.  It’s a short post with a powerful statement “Join us to put an end to drinking and driving and‪ #‎TackleImpossible” Attached is a video of a spokesperson, making it easily accessible rather than people reading.

Guinness: A fun dark beer that’s Made of More on social media

Guinness beer shows their excitement for St Patrick’s Day all over their social media platforms.

Traditionally thought of as the most Irish beer we’ve got here in North America, Guinness and St. Patrick’s Day pretty much go hand in hand.

Guinness takes advantage of this holiday on their Facebook and Twitter pages by building the hype, increasing their brand awareness, and no doubt boosting their sales.

While their Facebook page has an impressive 5,348,427 Likes, their Twitter Guinness US has 9085 Followers, and their Twitter Guinness Canada page only has 2017 Followers.
Their communication with their Facebook community is very active. Many comments are responded to quickly on Facebook, while their Twitter is slightly less frequent, particularly their Canadian Twitter page.

Because Guinness is a globally well-known brand, many of the comments on their posts are in a different language. This is different from the posts on many North American beer brand pages who are not as well-known globally.

Guinness’s YouTube site posts less frequently, which is expected as it takes much longer to develop video content than it does a written post. Many of their commercials highlight their positioning as a company with character. This image is carried across all of their platforms in their style, attitude, and campaign slogan stating that Guinness is a beer that’s Made of More.

Their social media strategy showcases their strong brand image and although they like to have fun, it is clear that they are targeting a more refined and responsible market segment.

Social Media Presence on Beer Brands: Stella Artois

In the business world, many companies are now heavily relying on social media and how it has impacted their business. One of the brands that will be talked about in this blog is Stella Artois and the digital marketing strategies they use for their brewery products.
Here are the social media platforms that there apart of:

When talking an in-depth look at Stella Artois performance on social media, you could agree that their most effective social media platform is Facebook due to the number of followers they have which is currently at 7.7 million likes on their page. Stella Artois posts pretty frequently but still struggle to post on a daily basis. The types of content that they produce to their audience is visual content promoting their “Buy A Lady A Drink” campaign as well as the “Give Beautifully” holiday campaign to promote brand awareness and awareness for the charities their involved with. The purpose of their content is to engage with their audience by using hash tags in their content as well as promoting their beer and having their audience become invested into purchasing their well-known Stella Artois chalice to help save women in need for clean water.

Based on the findings, I believe that Stella Artois has established themselves as a well-known brand in the global community. Although I do feel as though they have the potential to grow their social media presence by using effective social media strategies such as posting on a daily basis and creating effective promotional strategies to get people talking on social media. An example could be by involving Stella Artois’ “By A Lady A Drink” campaign and making it grow in the social media world and allow everybody to get involved. I feel as though the issue with this campaign is that not many people are aware of the campaign. An example that I believe Stella Artois should shadow off of is a company like Bell Canada, who uses the #BellLetsTalk to spread awareness for mental health and every tweet that is used with that hashtag will do directly to a mental health charity. I feel that by Stella Artois executing these strategies, they will increase their following and open more job opportunities for people to manage their social media interaction with their consumers.

Sleeman Brewery's New Dark Chocolate Lager! The perfect beer for the winter.

When talking an in-depth look at Sleeman’s performance on social media, you could agree that their most effective social media platform is Facebook and Twitter due to the number of followers they have as well. Sleeman posts pretty frequently but still struggle to post every day. Based on the findings, I believe that Sleeman has to potential to grow their market. They are a local brand that produces good quality beer but lack on creating a huge following on social media. If Sleeman considers to post on a daily basis and get involved not only locally but around Canada, I feel that they will increase their following and open more job opportunities for people to manage their social media interaction with their consumers.
Leave any comments on what you guys think is the best strategy for Sleeman to grow their social media presence?
