Sleeman's ULTIMATE Content Marketing Campaign!

Now, now, I know exactly what you’re thinking after reading that title…What in God’s name is that blogger thinking to creating the ultimate content marketing campaign and on top of that doing it for Sleeman Brewery, the least known beer brand in North America maybe even in Canada? Well my fellow readers, anybody can have dreams but I will explain to you what Sleeman can implement to have the potential to gain consumer engagement with all their social media platforms
Sleeman beer is known to be a local beer brand that is head quartered in Guelph, Ontario but still there product quality of beer is just as good as other famous Canadian brands that are high in the market. When looking back at their social media performance we can all agree that there not that well with having effective digital marketing strategies and getting the best results when posting content on their social media platforms. So here is my idea of a campaign that they could be implemented to their brand.
Idea

To create a promotional campaign that require consumer engagement on all social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram…heck even YouTube and Snapchat would be good for this. My idea is to introduce 3 new Sleeman beer flavours that will have a question mark on each bottle. The idea of this is for consumers to try the new flavors but also use social media to let us know how they feel about it and come up with a new name for the mystery flavor beer by using the #SleemansMysteryName to enter. You can tweet or post about it or make a video and share it to the whole world to be a part of this amazing contest. After a certain period, we will discontinue accepting requests and pick 3 winners. Those 3 winners will all have the opportunity to have their mystery name on our new bottle along with their social media username listed on the bottle. Hold on, you guys thought that was it? These winners will also receive a lifetime supply of our new flavoured product and will also get free VIP passes to our Sleeman Speakeasy event that brings you back to the prohibition era and give you a chance to play casino games and be a part of live music events. How’s that for a content marketing campaign? Will you be a part of it? That’s what I thought!

Audience

This competition is for all our beer lovers both male and female who love winning prizes and love using social media.

Purpose and Goal

I feel like this would be a good idea to help Sleeman get known to the internet world and create brand awareness for the company. With that being said, if all goes well this well help Sleeman not only attract consumers but also increase their following on their social media pages, get more feedback on the content they post and at the end of it all increase sales of their new and existing beer products.

When will you launch?

My plan for Sleeman to launch this campaign is right when summer starts so we can kick start the summer into releasing a statement about the contest for everybody to get involved and release the 3 new beers into the market for everybody to purchase and try out. I also plan to hold the Sleeman Speakeasy event around New Year’s Eve for everybody to be a part of the music live events and be a part of the classical them event which I believe fits perfectly for the New Year’s theme.

I have strong belief that this implementation could be a big hit for this summer and a good strategy to get Sleeman out there into the internet world and into the beer market. Let us know what you think in the comments below or any ideas you guys may have and why it would be a great idea. Cheers from the beer crew!

Does Budweiser have any internet buds??

In my last blog I talked about 3 Alexander Keith’s fan pages. This post is all about the BUD. You’d think the king of beers would have lots of positive fan pages right?! WRONG. Very few fan pages exist but I have found 3 that people who have already tried Budweiser or are thinking of trying should check out!

What’s it about?

Well as you can see this Instagram account mixes too things that most men love.  Beer and beautiful woman. It’s a page designed to attract men to drink Anheuser–Busch products (Budweiser being one of them). Don’t worry ladies, as soon as I see a page dedicated to the woman Budweiser drinkers I’ll post it! This page is simply woman with either the Budweiser or Budlight logo on their shirt or holding a Budweiser/Bud light beer.  In this day and age, sex sells.  So when most men come across this page, they see beautiful woman, they see Budweiser, and then they want it

Why should you check it out?

It’s a fun page to scroll through and chances are 9/10 times you see these photos you’ll want an Anheuser–Busch product (Hopefully Budweiser).  It’s like if an awesome drummer has a certain kit, you’ll see them both together and automatically want the kit because of the person attached to it.

What’s it about?

I mentioned this page in my last blog regarding Alexander Keith’s.  The Beer Advocate is a beer review site filled with hundreds of writer reviews and reader comments.  This page in particular is dedicated to Anheuser-Busch beers but if you scroll down you’ll find reviews for 8 different kinds of Budweiser beers.  If you are looking to see people’s comments on it because you want to try it or you want to praise about the taste (or not), give this site a chance and you might enjoy what you read.

Why should you check it out?

It’s always great to get an opinion other than the companies’ itself. If you are looking to see people’s comments on it because you want to try it or you want to praise about the taste (or not), give this site a chance and you might enjoy what you read.

What’s it about?

Just like in my Keith’s blog, this Tumblr site is filled with an archive of Budweiser tagged photos.  Cool artsy photos of the beer, celebrities/musicians drinking the beer or cool posters or merchandise to check out.  It’s cool to see other people enjoying the same beer as yourself!

Why should you check it out?

It doesn't take long.  You might see a celebrity or musician that you know drinking Budweiser (then you’ll have something to talk about if you ever meet them) and a lot of the photos are really cool! You might even be able to use some for a project you do about Budweiser ;)

If you guys know of any other fan/review pages regarding Budweiser, please comment below. I’d love to check them out!

Fan Pages of Alexander Keith's

Fan pages are a great way for consumers to almost get a second opinion on a product.  Sure the actual product website says its good, but when a there is a page dedicated to how it’s great or fun photos about the product, it’s almost like a testimonial. This blog is solely dedicated to fan pages of the great beer of Alexander Keith’s.  What can you expect on these pages and where to find them!

What’s it about?

The blog above is actually pretty witty.  It’s a Facebook account set up to make a bottle of Alexander Keith’s look like a human.  Posting photos of the Keith’s bottle out with friends, or smoking a cigarette.  It’s something you don’t see often and I really enjoy these types of pages.
Why should you check it out?
It’s humorous and witty.  It makes Alexander Keith’s seem more personal than a bottle of beer should seem.  It makes you think of fun times or goofing around, why not have a Keith’s in your hand while you do it?

What’s it about ?

It’s a beer review blog for Alexander Keith’s! From the main page you can scroll down and look at the writers reviews of all different types of Alexander Keith’s, plus readers comments.
Why should you check it out?
Why not?! If you are tired of the same old Keith’s or have simply never tried any Keith’s, check out the reviews on which types you should spend your money on!

What’s it about?

It’s a Tumblr account of photos that Alexander Keith’s has been tagged in.  Nothing too informative but there are some cool photos of people at events or nice shots of the beer itself.  If you check out this page, I guarantee you’ll be thirsty for a Keith’s!
Why should you check it out?
It’s cool to see people posting Alexander Keith’s photos from all around Canada and other parts of the world.  If you are a fellow Keith’s lover, it makes you feel connected with other people.  It’s always great to find people who love something as much as you do right?

There are tons of pages dedicated to Alexander Keith’s but I felt these were the top 3 all you Keith’s lovers or potential lovers should know about! Comment below if you know of any other great review or fan pages regarding the Halifax brewski!

Youtube Battle: Budweiser VS Alexander Keith's

Youtube is another social media platform that is quickly gaining ground.  It’s perfect for placing ads on other videos and commercials/promotional ads on your own page.  So far on my last 3 posts about Facebook, Twitter & Instagram, Budweiser has easily been not only the king of beers, but also social media! Once again, this does not change.  The following chart answers these 3 questions regarding Keith’s and Budweisers’ Youtube accounts:

·         How often does each brand post a new video/commercial?
·         What kind of video content does each brand post (commercials, celebrity spots, how-to’s, news, industry related events, music videos, etc.)
·         In the description area, what kind of content is included (links to other sites, keywords, descriptions, etc.)

Alexander Keith’s

·         Have not made a post in 6 months.  They posted a lot 6-7 months ago. Not active.

·         Most of their posts are about types of foods that you can make that go well with the drink.  A lot of these foods are popular on the east coast, especially Halifax and each video is usually a background story of someone who enjoys the food with the drink and why.

·         Their description of the channel is “Welcome to Alexander Keith’s official channel. Brewed since 1820, Alexander Keith’s brings flavour to life. Please enjoy responsibly.”  Below that is a link to their website and Facebook page.

Budweiser

·         They post as much as they do on any other social media site.  At least 5-6 times a month. Very active.

·         Budweiser makes a lot of posts. Commercial posts, promotional posts, celebrity posts.  The celebrity post is also a commercial which was aired during the superbowl where Hellen Mirren talks about drunk driving.  Their promotional posts are about why Budweiser is the best beer, why you should have it during the playoffs and why you should celebrate St. Patrick’s day drinking it.

·         The description for their channel: “Budweiser is the Great American Lager from Anheuser-Busch. Subscribe to our Youtube channel to keep up with your favorite American lager beer!” Below that is 5 links: Website, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter & Pinterest.

What is their most effective/popular video?

Alexander Keith’s

I’m not sure what separates this video apart from the other “UNTAPPED” ones but I guess the type of food they advertised was more popular than others. Other than that, I can’t really see any difference, the length of the videos are all somewhat similar.  They might have advertised this video at the right times.  Check the link for yourself and comment why you think this video has the most views!

Budweiser

What makes this commercial so popular ? Well for one thing it was aired during the superbowl and another, it’s awesome.  Upbeat music that gets the viewer pumped, its cocky and fun and showcases their confidence.  They remind you throughout the video why they are the “King of beers”.  Saying “people who drink Budweiser like beer” or “let them sip their pumpkin spice ale, while we brew some golden suds”.  It’s almost an ad saying that hey you can drink other beers, but REAL beer drinking men & Women are what Budweiser is for. Check out the ad below and see for yourself.  As you can see below it, it’s quite popular!

Twitter Battle: Budweiser VS Alexander Keiths!

Who doesn’t have Twitter nowadays? Almost every business, celebrity or average joe has Twitter.  But what about beer companies?? Alexander Keith’s & Budweiser do, but are they using Twitter to its full potential? The following chart will briefly answer these 4 questions and I will give them a grade rating:

·         How often does each brand tweet?
·         What kind of content does each brand tweet about (promotional, discounts and coupons, how-to’s,      industry related events, games, images, infographics, etc.)
·          Does each brand use the 50/50 rule?
·          Keyword sentences used by either brand on their posts

Alexander Keith’s
Budweiser - Canada
D
Not Often. Once a month. No posts in March yet. More posts during December.
A+
Very active. Post almost every other day.
C
They mostly post about trying their product during the holidays or entering pins to win merch.  Nothing to crazy
A
Very engaging with their twitter account.  Consistently post about activities they are involved with(Drinking and driving talk at SXSW, Goal light) A lot of their posts lately are to spread awareness for the Goal light and sharing  a link to engage them to try and get their names on it.  The reason for the A is because the posts are mostly similar, no variety.
D
No posts about the industry as a whole and barely any posts about themselves
C
They have made posts about drinking and driving which effects the beer industry as a whole and they posts about their product very often.

What were these brands biggest tweets and why ?

Budweiser Canada

It uses a video to take up most of the space of the users’ screen which then catches their attention.  It has a link describing what the goal light is about and using the word “Canadian” give users a patriotic feeling when they retweet the post.

Nothing special right? Correct! But that’s what makes it so effective and so “Retweet-able”.  It’s a simple post about sharing with friends and family during the holidays.  By retweeting this, you are sharing the holiday joy and the Keith’ name.

Bud Light’s Social Media Presence

Bud Light’s Social Media Presence

Facebook

  •          Posts videos

Twitter

  •         Posts humorous videos, .gifs, games and polls
  •         Heavily promotes the correlation of social gatherings with their product

YouTube

  •          Posts humorous videos
  •          Posts brand related videos

Instagram

  •      Posts pictures about their beer
  •     Uses Instagram as a promotion campaign medium

Bud Light does not have a large social media presence. It uses Twitter heavily, targeting its primary target market: youth. However, they do not achieve large amounts of favourites nor retweets. On their Twitter account they have 148,000 followers.

Guinness: A fun dark beer that’s Made of More on social media

Guinness beer shows their excitement for St Patrick’s Day all over their social media platforms.

Traditionally thought of as the most Irish beer we’ve got here in North America, Guinness and St. Patrick’s Day pretty much go hand in hand.

Guinness takes advantage of this holiday on their Facebook and Twitter pages by building the hype, increasing their brand awareness, and no doubt boosting their sales.

While their Facebook page has an impressive 5,348,427 Likes, their Twitter Guinness US has 9085 Followers, and their Twitter Guinness Canada page only has 2017 Followers.
Their communication with their Facebook community is very active. Many comments are responded to quickly on Facebook, while their Twitter is slightly less frequent, particularly their Canadian Twitter page.

Because Guinness is a globally well-known brand, many of the comments on their posts are in a different language. This is different from the posts on many North American beer brand pages who are not as well-known globally.

Guinness’s YouTube site posts less frequently, which is expected as it takes much longer to develop video content than it does a written post. Many of their commercials highlight their positioning as a company with character. This image is carried across all of their platforms in their style, attitude, and campaign slogan stating that Guinness is a beer that’s Made of More.

Their social media strategy showcases their strong brand image and although they like to have fun, it is clear that they are targeting a more refined and responsible market segment.

Social Media Presence on Beer Brands: Stella Artois

In the business world, many companies are now heavily relying on social media and how it has impacted their business. One of the brands that will be talked about in this blog is Stella Artois and the digital marketing strategies they use for their brewery products.
Here are the social media platforms that there apart of:

When talking an in-depth look at Stella Artois performance on social media, you could agree that their most effective social media platform is Facebook due to the number of followers they have which is currently at 7.7 million likes on their page. Stella Artois posts pretty frequently but still struggle to post on a daily basis. The types of content that they produce to their audience is visual content promoting their “Buy A Lady A Drink” campaign as well as the “Give Beautifully” holiday campaign to promote brand awareness and awareness for the charities their involved with. The purpose of their content is to engage with their audience by using hash tags in their content as well as promoting their beer and having their audience become invested into purchasing their well-known Stella Artois chalice to help save women in need for clean water.

Stella Artois' #BuyALadyADrink Campaign.

Based on the findings, I believe that Stella Artois has established themselves as a well-known brand in the global community. Although I do feel as though they have the potential to grow their social media presence by using effective social media strategies such as posting on a daily basis and creating effective promotional strategies to get people talking on social media. An example could be by involving Stella Artois’ “By A Lady A Drink” campaign and making it grow in the social media world and allow everybody to get involved. I feel as though the issue with this campaign is that not many people are aware of the campaign. An example that I believe Stella Artois should shadow off of is a company like Bell Canada, who uses the #BellLetsTalk to spread awareness for mental health and every tweet that is used with that hashtag will do directly to a mental health charity. I feel that by Stella Artois executing these strategies, they will increase their following and open more job opportunities for people to manage their social media interaction with their consumers.

What Makes Social Media One of the Biggest Marketing Strategies for Beer Brands?

In the business world, many companies are now heavily relying on social media and how it has impacted their business. One of the brands that will be talked about in this blog is Sleeman Brewery and the digital marketing strategies they use for their newest product called the “Dark Chocolate Lager”.
Sleeman Brewery's New Dark Chocolate Lager! The perfect beer for the winter.
Here are the social media platforms that there apart of:

When talking an in-depth look at Sleeman’s performance on social media, you could agree that their most effective social media platform is Facebook and Twitter due to the number of followers they have as well. Sleeman posts pretty frequently but still struggle to post every day. The types of content that they produce to their audience is visual content promoting their “Dark Chocolate Lager” as a perfect beverage for the winter. The purpose of their content is engage with their audience to help them improve as a brand as well as promote their products to increase brand awareness and excel in targeting multiple target markets.

Based on the findings, I believe that Sleeman has to potential to grow their market. They are a local brand that produces good quality beer but lack on creating a huge following on social media. If Sleeman considers to post on a daily basis and get involved not only locally but around Canada, I feel that they will increase their following and open more job opportunities for people to manage their social media interaction with their consumers.
Leave any comments on what you guys think is the best strategy for Sleeman to grow their social media presence?
